“My business philosophy has always been to take care of people. If you take care of people, all your other needs will be fulfilled.” - Phillip “Flip” Short, CEO and Founder
At ViraCor, we know success is sweet, but sharing it is even sweeter. We are serious about sharing our success, not because we feel we have to, but simply because we want to. Our philanthropic endeavors naturally extend to the transplant and scientific communities; we focus on organ donation education, promoting scientific education and career exploration, as well as providing job shadowing opportunities for college students.
Gift of Life
ViraCor promotes organ donation education by supporting Gift of Life, a Kansas City based nonprofit organization that educates to increase awareness of the urgent need for organ and tissue donation. Throughout the years, ViraCor has volunteered associates’ time and expertise, and provided monetary support for various endeavors, such as creating a television commercial to promote its efforts. Each holiday season, ViraCor makes a donation to Gift of Life in the name of each of our clients. To learn more about the Gift of Life visit http://www.giftdonor.com .
Young Scientists
ViraCor promotes scientific education and careers through our Young Scientist Program. Our scientists frequently give talks at area high schools to generate interest and excitement in science. ViraCor recruits local high school students with an aptitude for science and math and spends a day in the laboratory with them, teaching them about molecular based science and infectious diseases. Each semester, students from the University of Kansas Molecular Diagnostic Department spend one week in the laboratory gaining real world experience in a diagnostic laboratory environment, working directly with ViraCor’s clinical scientists.
Community Compassion
ViraCor opens its heart to those in need with the same enthusiasm we apply to our business. When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, we immediately responded by relieving our New Orleans hospital accounts of their bills and performing free tests for any of their patient transfers. Each week, ViraCor selects one associate’s favorite charity in which to donate. Our associates have embraced ViraCor’s compassionate environment and have made traditions of their own; for example, adopting families during the holiday season to ensure they have food, clothing, and gifts, and walking as a team in the Multiple Sclerosis Walk, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night walk, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk for a Cure.
